Prayer:
Eternal God, as a prelude to our experience together today, we bow humbly before you in acknowledgement of your never-ending mercies. Gratefully we receive the gifts which flow from you beneficent hand. Eagerly we anticipate the fellowship which awaits us, the food which will sustain us, and the opportunity to renew our commitment to service.
We offer our thanks for the blessing of food and for those who prepare and serve it. Bless our fellowship, our table conversations, and the efforts we make to serve others.
Help us to be receptive to your guiding spirit in our personal lives and corporate situations. Amen.

Arden Barnett Speaks on the Past, Present and Future of Bringing Music to Jackson
Arden Barnett has been bringing music to Jackson since the late 80's as the talent buyer and production manager for Hal&Mal's but in January of 2011 he branched out on his own and created in Ardenland - an entertainment company specializing in concert promotion, festival management, corporate events, private parties, fund-raising, school dances and university concertsArden recounted his years in the music business.  Arden recounted his life in this line of work: the highs of working with some of the most popular musicians of all time and the tolls of "sex, drugs, and rock and roll." He concluded his talk with a plea for action to remedy Jackson's current water woes and infrastructure issues.  The constant boil water notices and terrible roads are seriously taking a toll on the restaurants and entertainment venues in Jackson and Arden feels the only way to fix the current issues is to take action as citizens.

More Young African Leaders  Visit the Rotary Club of North Jackson
The second group of 12 young African leaders participating in the Mandela Washington Fellowship program visited the Rotary Club of North Jackson on August 2. Like the first group that visited on July 26, this group of leaders is hosted by Jackson State University Professor and North Jackson Rotarian Dr. Sharon Simmons.

All 24 of the leaders studied with various American universities over the past two years. Those studies were conducted virtually from their home countries because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current visit to the United States is the first visit to our country for many of the fellows.

Shown in the following photo are: (from the left) Rotarian Don Roberts, Stark Bode, an Artist from Togo, and Tsholofelo Letsholo, a Human Resources Management professional from Botswana.

Also shown with our African visitors are the Rotarians Lori Greer (left) and Lynette Suttlar (2nd  from right). The YALI Visitors are Thierno Souleymane Diop Niang, a jurist from Senegal (second from left), Lorna Juma, a Public Management/ Business Development  Professional from Kenya (center), and Tsholofelo Letsholo a Human Resources Management Professional from Botswana (right).

We hope that our visitors have felt welcome in Jackson and in the United States and we thank them for sharing their time with us.
