Dick Molpus speaks to Rotary Club of North Jackson

Dick Molpus, former Secretary of State of Mississippi and gubernatorial candidate, who is currently president of The Molpus Woodlands Group, spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jackson at its May 5, 2015 meeting. Mr. Molpus' general subject was the historic and current myopia of Mississippi's elected officials. He cited the lack of future vision of the state's leaders in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when it permitted clear cutting of vast acreages of state lands essentially eliminating the state's timber industry. Moving to the current day, he cited the myopia of the state's leaders with regards to public educations. He pointed out that industries focus on the quality of the workforce when deciding whether or not to locate a manufacturing facility in the state and, yet, the state's leaders refuse to fund our state's public schools to even a C level. In closing, Mr. Molpus spoke on behalf of Proposition 42 on the November 2015 ballot. That proposition would amend the State's constitution and require the legislature to fully fund public education. Mr. Molpus (on the right) is shown with Rotarian Bill Osborne following his presentation. We thank him for speaking to our club.
