Entrepreneur, lawyer, businessman Ray Harrigil spoke to the
Rotary club of North Jackson at its February 16, 2016 meeting.
The subject of his talk was pivoting. The analogy that he used
to describe pivoting is of a basketball play going down the court
and stops to pivot and pass the ball to another player without
disrupting the game. This is exactly what has to happen in busi-
ness when unexpected head winds are encountered and the busi-
ness plan has to be adjusted and redone. Mr. Harigil described how
he has done this several time in his businesses. He started with a
Bumpers Drive-in Franchise in Flowood, MS. Soon thereafter a Sonic
built adjacent drawing away his traffic. He then took on a Bloick
Buster franchise that he successfully operated for several years
until he exited profitably liquidating his inventory of DVDs. He now
has 5 Hampton Inn hotels in Louisiana that are operating success-
fully. The accompanying photo shows Mr. Harrigil (second from right)
with club members John Sewell (left), Dr. Suman Das (second from

munications at Millsaps College. We thank Mr. Harrigil for his interest-
ing and enlightening presentation.
